The Islamic State (ISIS) have released a photo on its English language mouthpiece, the Dabiq magazine, in which they have shown a can of a Schweppes drink that they say was used to bring down a Russian plane over the skies of Egypt earlier this month. According to USA Today , citing Reuters , the official magazine of the ISIS said it used a Schweppes drink soda can to make an improvised bomb potent enough to bring the aircraft down.

Also pictured were a switch and a detonator that the ISIS claims to have used with the can. As the Inquisitr has already reported in the past, all 224 people onboard the Russian plane were killed in the plane crash , which happened in the Sinai Peninsula of Egypt. The aircraft had taken off just a few minutes prior, from the Egyptian resort town of Sharm al-Shiekh.
While the revelation remains unverified, if this turns out to be true, airline safety officials will have to worry about a new security threat in the form of hitherto harmless looking soft drink cans.
The ISIS has branded both Russia and other western powers as the “Crusaders of the East and West.” Here is an excerpt from the publication.
“The divided Crusaders of the East and West thought themselves safe in their jets as they cowardly bombarded the Muslims of the Caliphate. And so revenge was exacted upon those who felt safe in the cockpits.”
Meanwhile, it has already been reported about the fact that all evidence indicates that the Russian plane was, indeed, brought down by a bomb. Even the Russians have admitted that a bomb going off mid-flight was the most plausible reason for the crash. Only the Egyptian government says it has not received ample evidence of criminal action. The magazine also posted images of what it claims were passports that belonged to dead Russians who were in the aircraft. It remains unclear how they got access to the passports in case they do turn out to be genuine. The magazine goes on to add that it was able to exploit a security loophole at the Sharm al-Sheikh airport where they were able smuggle the explosive laden can into the ill-fated aircraft. According to ISIS, they had initially planned to target aircraft belonging to another country — but changed plans midway after Russian started its bombing campaign against the ISIS.
“A bomb was smuggled onto the airplane, leading to the deaths of 219 Russians and five other crusaders only a month after Russia’s thoughtless decision.”
Meanwhile, following the attack on the Russian plane, President Vladimir Putin resolved to track down the people behind that attack and even offered a bounty of $50 million reward to anyone who could lead them to the perpetrators of the attack.
The Dabiq also claimed it has executed two foreigners — a Norwegian national and a Chinese citizen — just when the world thought they had seen enough executions from them. According to USA Today , ISIS claimed the two men were executed after the victims were “abandoned by kafir (infidel) nations and organizations.”
The two men who have been executed have been named as Ole Johan Grimsgaard-Ofstad, 48, from Oslo, and Fan Jinghui, 50, from Beijing.
The news of this mini resurgence of the ISIS has come just a few days after the organization claimed to have orchestrated the Paris terrorist attacks , which claimed the lives of 129 people — making it the worst terrorist attack in France’s history. French warplanes have reacted to the attack by launching airstrikes on the ISIS stronghold of Raqqa.
