Since January, heads have been shaking over Sofia Vergara’s alleged endorsement of Donald Trump. The rumor began on a site called The Journal Daily , which quoted Vergara on a recent episode of Ellen .
“Trump is like some of this country’s best leaders. Abraham Lincoln, George Washington… Also, he’s worth four billion dollars. You don’t get to be that successful unless you know how to run something. That’s the person I want running this country.”
Vergara’s alleged endorsement was well received by Donald Trump’s fans on Twitter.
The Journal Daily added that Donald Trump felt triumphant after he heard about the endorsement. The only problem was that the article, and the endorsement, were purely fabricated. Once again, Gossip Cop put the brakes on another false story .
“Sofia Vergara did not endorse Donald Trump, despite a webloid report. G ossip Copcan exclusively correct this claim. We’re told it isn’t true at all,” claims gossip buster Michael Lewittes, who jokes that The Journal Dailyappears to have “as much traffic as a deserted island.”
It appears that Sofia Vergara not only never endorsed Donald Trump, but her alleged quotes about him on Ellen were also fabricated. Trump never acknowledged the alleged endorsement by Vergara. Because of his stance on immigration, Trump has had a difficult time garnering any Hispanic endorsements. However, he did get an endorsement from the New York Post this past week.
“That’s the work of the Donald Trump we know — a New Yorker, born and bred…Trump is now an imperfect messenger carrying a vital message. But he reflects the best of ‘New York values’ — and offers the best hope for all Americans who rightly feel betrayed by the political class.”
The endorsement announcement ends by stating that Trump has skills and values to “make America great again.” The New York Post ‘s endorsement was widely mocked on other websites, including Fishbowl DC .
“Let’s say a newspaper plans to endorse a candidate, but that candidate lacks a realistic platform, exhibits a disturbing and able propensity to stir up xenophobic and racist heartstrings, and whose message, when not focused on putting others down, is an ever expanding balloon of ego inflation,” says columnist Corinne Grinapol, who is more shocked about the reasoning behind the Trump endorsement than the actual endorsement.
Shawn Kingof the New York Daily Newsalso bashed the Post‘s endorsement.
“The New York Post has an Editorial Board. That board, on this planet, in real life, not as a joke, for real, met, discussed, and deliberated on who to endorse to be the Republican nominee for President of the United States. When they emerged, they reached a consensus on who that man should be — Donald Trump,” King explained, before assuring his readers, once again, that this isn’t a practical joke.
Like others, King believes the Post ‘s endorsement of Donald Trump defies all logic. However, Donald Trump is still far ahead of the other Republican candidates in all the New York polls, so the joke may just become a reality.
