Several reports indicate that Dutch national football manager, Louis Van Gaal is Manchester United’s next manager, replacing the recently canned David Moyes, and that interim manager/player Ryan Giggs will be his assistant.

The official announcement was said to have come on Thursday, but it has reportedly been delayed a week since Old Trafford has not worked out all the details of the deal as of yet.

According to the rumors, Manchester United plans to sit down with the Dutchman on Sunday, May 17 following Holland’s friendly against Ecuador in Amsterdam.

It is also believed that van Gaal will offer the number two position to Ryan Giggs, who was appointed interim manager when Moyes was fired last month, and that the two have discussed the future direction of Manchester United during a meeting on Wednesday, when the Dutch players had a day off.

The Daily Mail reports that the delay is not due to any problems between Louis van Gaal and Manchester United, and they are sure that the 62-year-old will be Old Trafford’s next manager.

Working against the planned announcement is the fact that van Gaal has a team to prepare for the Ecuador friendly on Saturday, and all his efforts are geared toward having the “Clockwork Orange” ready to take the field in preparation for the 2014 World Cup, which kicks off next month in Brazil.

Once that game is behind him, Manchester United’s hope is that van Gaal will have time to continue discussing the details of his contract with them and the club can make a formal announcement.

Louis van Gaal would bring a wealth of experience to Manchester United, having served in high profile teams such as Ajax, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, and the Netherlands national team.

Both van Gaal and Manchester United have not made any public comments on the reports.
