Hurricane Sandy is now responsible for 180 deaths including 111 lives that were taken in the United States.

According to officials, 48 people have died in New York, 24 in New Jersey, and 11 in Maryland. Also dead are six in West Virginia, four in Connecticut, two in Virginia, one in North Carolina, one in New Hampshire, and one aboard famed ship the HMS Bounty .

The coroner’s office has also reported at least 13 deaths in Pennsylvania. In Pennsylvania, only 7 of the 13 deaths have been confirmed to be storm related.

Superstorm Sandy’s effects were also felt outside of the United States with two deaths reported in Canada and 67 more reported in the Caribbean.

Speaking to reporters, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo warned that residents are not out of the woods yet:

“People are in homes that are uninhabitable. It’s going to become increasingly clear that they’re uninhabitable when the temperature drops and the heat doesn’t come on. The reality is going to be in the temperature. We’re going to have tens of thousands of people that need housing solutions right away.”

In some areas, officials are working around the clock to once again become fully operational within their municipalities. New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg told reporters that he plans to take the New York City subway on Monday.

Officials warn that the death toll could continue to rise and have asked that anyone without power or proper supplies visit one of the many shelters set up by the American Red Cross and other relief effort organizations.

Hurricane Sandy, in the meantime, has brought out the best in people as a Hurricane Sandy relief concert took in $23 million .
