In a market dominated by the iPhone, the HTC is scrambling to compete. But Android hasn’t given up the fight yet. The new HTC One M8 has received a much desired feature, the Extreme Power Saving Mode.

The mode was promised during the announcement of the HTC One M8 and expected to be made available shortly after the phone’s release. The update is finally available, roughly a month after a similar feature was released by Sprint. But what is the HTC’s Extreme Power Saving Mode exactly, and is it worth all the fuss?

Android Geeks reported that that the HTC One M8’s power saving mode will allow the device to use a mere 1 percent of total battery life every three hours. This allows the HTC to run 40 percent longer. One of the primary competitors to the HTC One M8, the Samsung Galaxy S5, already has a similar feature called Ultimate Power Saving Mode, which allows the device to run for 24 additional hours on only 10 percent battery capacity.

Not all users will be able to download the HTC One M8 update right away. The mode will be made available to various users in stages. Android Geeks claims the device will notify you of the update. Otherwise, you can check for updates manually on your HTC by going to Settings > About phone > Software updates > Check now.

In addition to the Extreme Power Saving Mode hitting the smart phone market soon, Android is also developing a newer model of the device called the HTC One M8 Prime. The specifications were recently leaked online.

According to th e Fuse Joplin , the Prime will feature specifications to rival both Apple and Google products. The HTC One M8 Prime model will have a 5.5 inch display, which is substantially larger than the current model. The resolution of that screen will be 2560p by 1440p, with a pixel density of 534. As far as processing power goes, the HTC One M8 Prime will have a 2.3 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 805 processor and 3 gigabytes of RAM. There is no official word on how much storage the device will have, but it is rumored to come with 16 gigabytes of internal memory. The HTC One M8 Prime will also feature a 5 megapixel camera for clear video and photography.

It will be up to the users and the customers to determine who wins the next round of the smart device war. Some people believe the HTC will be the next big device to overtake the iPhone . What do you think? Will you be picking up an HTC One M8 now that the Extreme Power Saving Mode is available, or will you wait for the Prime model?
