A high school rushing record that has stood for nearly 60 years was broken this week by Yulee running back Derrick Henry. Henry ran for 482 yards on Friday night against Perry (Fla.) Taylor County to bring his career total up to 11,612 yards.
Henry broke Ken Hall’s record, which has stood since 1953, of 11,232 yards.
Henry said:
“Breaking this record means a lot to me … I’m glad I could share it with my coaches, my teammates and all of Yulee. They all helped me get to this point. I don’t think it will really hit me until I’m done with football.”
Henry broke the longstanding HS rushing record with a spectacular game. ESPN reports that Henry carried the ball 58 times for 482 yards and six touchdowns on Friday night. He now has 148 career touch downs, 6th on the all-time list.
Hall, who earned his record at Sugar Land (Texas) High School, called Henry after the game to congratulate him on his new record.
Henry said:
“He congratulated me and told me to always stay hungry and to work hard and make sure I get my education.”
According to Bleacher Reports , Derrick Henry has committed to play at Alabama next year.
