HBO’s True Detective managed to win the top international award at the BAFTA TV Awards recently held in London. It beat a stellar line up of The Good Wife, House of Cards and Orange Is The New Black .

Season 1 of True Detectives starred Matthew McConaughey as Detective Rust Cohle and Woody Harrelson as Detective Marty Hart.

“An anthology police detective series in which investigations seem to unearth both personal and professional secrets of those involved, both within or outside the law.”

While fans loved the first season of True Detective , Season 2 will see a complete shift in characters and story line as the show’s producer, Nic Pizzolatto, recently told Medium , although he is determined to stay true to the original essence of the True Detectives series.

“There’s no relationship between the stories or characters, which was the result of fully committing to something new, but I do think that the seasons have a deep, close bond in sensibility and vision, a similar soul, though this is a more complex world and field of characters.”

The director also addressed those occult rumors circulating about Season 2 of True Detective after an earlier comment he made in relation to Season 2 being about “Bad men, hard women, and the secret occult history of the U.S. transportation system.” While he did originally think True Detective could follow an occult theme in Season 2, since that first comment, he has moved the show away from this direction and more towards a “closer character work and a more grounded crime story.” There will also be less storytelling flashbacks and no confusing leaps in Season 2 of True Detectives .
