HBO Go: New Movies Coming To HBO, Netflix In October

HBO Go and other online services are now known as much for the new offerings each month as much as they are for its standard catalog of streaming television shows and movies that never seems to change.

In October, HBO Go is offering a variety of new movies for streaming. According to Vulture , HBO Go will offer a wide variety of new streaming programming options this month.

Among the movies and shows coming to the service, Vulture reports the arrival of Little Miss Sunshine , Lost in Translation , Magnolia , Mrs. Doubtfire , American Sniper , Season 2 of The Leftovers , and Amy Schumer: Live at the Apollo .

Decider goes into more detail for all streaming service offerings – not just HBO Go – and lists several hit movies coming to Netflix, Amazon Prime, HBO Go, and HBO Now, among other services.

Decider looked at the new offerings and highlighted a Netflix original coming back for its second season .

“ Beasts of No Nation (2015) *Netflix Original: Cary Fukunaga (Jane Eyre, True Detective) directs this Oscar bait war epic starring Idris Elba and newcomer Abraham Attah as young Agu, a child solider fighting for revenge and freedom in an unnamed African country. [Stream Beasts of No Nation exclusively on Netflix October 16]”

Another original series coming to Netflix is Jane the Virgin , whose lead character ends up pregnant despite abstaining from sexual relations.

If the premise of the show seems ridiculous, just look at the description of the show from Amazon .

“Set in Miami, Jane The Virgin details the surprising and unforeseen events that take place in the life of Jane Villanueva, a hard-working, religious young Latina woman whose family tradition and a vow to save her virginity until her marriage to a detective is shattered when a doctor mistakenly artificially inseminates her during a checkup. And to make matters worse, the biological donor is a married man, a former playboy and cancer survivor who is not only the new owner of the hotel where Jane works, but was also her former teenage crush.”

While services like HBO Go and HBO Now have long been able to rely on original programming from its parent company – HBO – Netflix has had to invest heavily in original programming that was not an original part of the streaming service.

Netflix shows that went on to become cult favorites include House of Cards and Orange is the New Black , while others have started more quietly. New programming to appear on the service in 2015 includes The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt . While the show has yet to gain the following of House of Cards or Orange is the New Black , its being coupled with other shows like Jane the Virgin and Beasts of No Nation show that streaming services such as Netflix must continue investing in original content in order to stay competitive with more traditional services, such as HBO Go. HBO Go is essentially HBO’s television channel available on mobile, Apple TV, online, and other services such as Roku.

HBO Go was originally tied to only traditional HBO television cable subscribers, though the recent addition of HBO Now – as reported by the Inquisitr – have brought HBO into a territory created by Netflix and being crowded by services such as Hulu and Amazon.
