A Hawaii shark attack sent a 61-year-old man to the hospital after he was attacked off the shore of Maui.
The man was snorkeling on Friday with another man about 200 yards off Kihei in Hawaii when the shark attack took place, The Associated Press reported .
County officials said the Hawaii shark attack left the man with multiple cuts on his lower left leg and thigh. The man reported that the shark’s head was about two feet wide, but it’s not known exactly what type of shark it was.
After the Hawaii shark attack, the man was treated on shore by lifeguards and taken to Maui Memorial Medical Center.
This marks the second time in the past few months that a swimmer was attacked by a shark off the coast of Maui. In late October officials closed several Hawaii beaches after a 51-year-old woman was bitten by a shark . The attack led officials to close beaches surrounding the Makena Landing Beach park, the Maui News reported.
In the October incident, the woman was attacked by a 10-foot shark while swimming only about 20 yards offshore. The victim suffered injuries to her right thigh and right hand and was transported to the Maui Memorial Medical Center.
Before that incident, another Hawaii shark attack took place earlier in October when a stand-up paddler was attacked by a shark in another part of Maui.
Following the most recent Hawaii shark attack, officials closed the beach between Kamaole III to Waipuilani Park after the Hawaii shark attack as a precaution to swimmers.
