Hasnat Khan, Princess Diana’s former lover is slamming the new biopic based on their relationship during the last two years of her life.
Dr. Khan, 54, says the movie is a “complete lie” breaking his silence about the topic, just days before the film opens in the UK and ahead of the 16th anniversary of the Princess of Wales’ tragic death on August 31.
The film is based on the 2001 book by Kate Snell’s , Diana: Her Last Love, which is supposedly a collection of statements Diana made to close friends and confidants about her romance to Khan.
But the doctor is denying claims that he gave movie producers a “tacit agreement” on the script,
“It’s a complete lie, I never gave my approval.” Khan said.
He adds that the book is based on “gossip” told by friends of Diana that didn’t know anything about their relationship as well as his relatives, who knew little about it also.
Hasnat Khan criticizes the mannerisms he observed in some stills from the film saying, that was not the way they would have behaved with each other. Princess Diana and Khan stayed together until shortly before her death.
“There wasn’t any hierarchy in our relationship. She wasn’t a princess and I wasn’t a doctor.” Khan adds.
He confirmed that they had discussed moving to his native Pakistan, but he couldn’t handle the constant attention and the paparazzi following their every move.
This is the first time doctor Khan is breaking his silence about the subject of his romance with the “People’s Princess”, which he never denied, but has not discussed publicly.
After their romance ended Princess Diana started seeing Egyptian millionaire Dodi al-Fayed who was with her when they were both killed while escaping paparazzi down the streets of Paris in 1997.
Doctor Hasnat Khan, who is divorced practices as a cardiothoracic surgeon at Basildon University Hospital in Essex, England, added: “There are a hundred could-have-beens.”
