Harry Potter star and Golden Globe-winning actor John Lithgow, besides his acting prowess, is known for his signature sense of humor. Some of his more mature fans might recall his hilarious performance in the alien-themed comedy series Third Rock from the Sun. Meanwhile, Lithgow also likes to share his great humor in pieces relating to President Donald Trump.

As Lithgow showcased his solidarity with the ‘No Kings’ protesters, he also shared a poem on social media, dedicating it to Trump, while giving the president the nickname “Trumpty Dumpty.”

Lithgow, 80, who will be playing Albus Dumbledore in the new HBO Harry Potter TV series, revealed the poem that he wrote some time ago about Trump. While he was unable to attend No Kings protest with other celebrities, he shared his solidarity through his talented written word.

In his Instagram video, while revealing his solidarity with the ‘No Kings’ protests, he said, “Hello everybody, I wish I was marching today for No Kings with all of you, but I’ll be acting in a Broadway matinee, so I had to do something, so I figured I would recite a poem that I wrote about six years ago in a book I released back then called ‘Trumpty Dumpty Wanted a Crown.'”

The actor then recited the poem, “Trumpty Dumpty wanted a crown. To make certain he never would have to step down. He wanted a robe made of ermine and velvet. The Constitution, he wanted to shelve it. He wanted a robe made of ermine and velvet. The constitution, he wanted to shelve it. With impeachment awash, his ambition had grown,” John added.

In conclusion, Lithgow recited, “He wanted an orb, a sceptre, a throne, six royal palaces, six royal carriages. A church dispensation for six royal marriages. Courtiers installed on his own supreme court. And royal beheadings if only for sport. He craved the occasional royal procession and gasped the eventual royal succession. Trumpty Dumpty gets his way. Unless the public has something to say. If we let him have all of his favorite things. We’ll have to endure the divine right of king.”

Lithgow’s fans clearly enjoyed his poem, and many took to the comments section to praise his work, while also thanking him for his support for No Kings. One wrote, “Work of art. Thank you for leading the way with grace.”

Another fan wrote, “Thank you Mr. Lithgow. Your poetry is spot on,” while yet another praised his solidarity, writing, “John. You are not only a great actor, but also a great patriot. Thank you so much!”

One of his fans complimented the actor, writing, “You are so talented. I have admired your work for decades now. However, your passion for democracy and ability to express it so profoundly for all ages to understand is IMO your greatest body of work. Long live democracy and you!”

Another fan wrote, “I have your book! Thanks for writing it!” while another commented,  “protesting isnt always marching in the streets, sometimes its reciting a delicate poem. i love this mister lithgow.” Another fan headed to the comments section to write, “So well stated — thank you for sharing your wonderful poem with us.”

Meanwhile, the No King protests referred to by John Lithgow are a series of countrywide protest marches held in the US in June 2025, October 2025, and March 2026. Each of the 3,000 protests strongly opposed the policies and actions taken by the Trump administration.

Among the issues, the No Kings marches were a demand to release the Epstein Files, the ongoing Iran war, as well as the escalating and brutal violence of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents, and more.
