[Rumor] Harmonix Working On Next-Gen Game With Motion Controls, Narrative

We know that Harmonix is working on getting Rock Band Blitz out the door later this year, but does the developer have anything planned after that? If the rumors are to be believed, they do–and what they’re working on isn’t quite like anything they’ve done before.

Various job listings picked up on by Supererogatory, internet sleuth extraordinaire, paint a rather ambitious picture for Harmonix’s next title, apparently based on an entirely new IP. The listings suggest that the game will be motion-controlled, and, strangely, music-based.

To give you an idea of why that’s strange, this doesn’t appear to be simply another music game with motion controls–Harmonix is looking to hire a narrative designer for the game “to incorporate creative story lines into gameplay on a unique motion-gaming IP.” So, in other words, the game will be a motion-controlled, music-based game with narrative. See how this is strange now?

Don’t expect to see this title announced by Harmonix at E3 next month, however. All indications are that development on the new IP is in its very early stages, assuming development has even started . Couple that with the fact that Harmonix’s next game will apparently be running on next-gen consoles, and we’re not likely to hear about whatever the game is for some time.

I can’t say that Harmonix has ever let me down before, so I’m looking forward to seeing what this project turns out to be. Maybe something akin to Space Channel 5 ?
