Does anyone ever stay happy on Grey’s Anatomy ? If you’ve been watching the show for eleven years, or even for a season or two, you know the answer is a big, fat no. No one stays happy in Shondaland.
With that in mind, it’s no surprise that Shonda Rhimes’ longest running television show is going through another set of growing pains. While we thought it was enough that she killed off Meredith’s one true love, Derek, we’re now learning that another couple faces yet another huge blow.
After going through a horrific time losing their baby due to a genetic disorder, April and Jackson still haven’t recovered as a couple. If losing a baby wasn’t enough, every character’s trajectory has been placed a year into the future following Derek’s death. Fans of April and Jackson discover that during the year that we missed out on as viewers, the couple has been struggling to communicate with each other.
First, it was the emotional turmoil that April and Jackson endured and then that transitioned into physical distance. In an effort to find herself, April left to join the army to heal wounded soldiers overseas. This left Jackson to struggle with the death of their son on his own. April was only supposed to leave for a short while, but kept on extending her tour, even though Jackson missed her terribly and was desperately trying to reach out to her via FaceTime.
According to E! , all of this comes to a head during the season finale of Grey’s Anatomy . ABC released a sneak peek between Jackson and April. The video clip shows the Grey’s Anatomy couple at the end of a whirlwind day. It seems like April saves the victim that we saw last week, who was given no chance of surviving after being impaled inside of a car. That is, until his odds were brightened when April turned up at the hospital with the victim still arranged in the car.
In the scene, she tells Jackson, “The way I felt today. Every day is like it out there. I thought it was just readjustment, and then I thought it was an adrenaline addiction. I feel like I’ve been called.”
When Jackson realizes April wants to go back into the field, he gives a heartbreaking speech that seals the deal for this couple. “When we lost Samuel, a light went out in you, and I miss it. I missed it so much, and whatever it was over there, it got relit. I don’t think I can be here when you come back.”
So, there you have it. It looks like another couple is quickly going down the drain, and they might not even make it past the season finale.
