With both teams playing their 10th game of the 2015 season, the Vikings hold a one-game edge on the Packers, so win could open up a significant lead with just five games to play after this one.
The staggering Packers — who less than a month ago were undefeated at 6-0 and appeared nearly invincible — could regain the momentum in the division race, tying it up at seven wins each with a road victory Sunday.
But the two traditional rivals have headed in opposite directions in recent weeks. After starting the season at 2-2, the Vikings have ridden on the shoulders of league-leading rusher Adrian Peterson to five consecutive victories and a division-best 7-2 record, finally topping the Pacers after last week’s games.
The Packers stood at 6-0 on October 18 , going into their bye week. But Green Bay came out of the two-week break seemingly a different team, and not in a good way. In fact, the Packers have not won since, dropping three in a row — most recently enduring a humiliating defeat to the last-place team in the NFC North, the Detroit Lions.

The Green Bay defense, led by safety Ha Ha Clinton-Dix and linebacker Clay Matthews, ranks a mediocre 23rd overall in the NFL in yards allowed and 11th in points surrendered, but the Minnesota offense has also been halting at best, relying almost entirely on Peterson, who leads the NFL with just 49 yards short of 1,000 — a mark he should easily surpass in only his 11th game of the season.
At his current pace, Peterson is on target to top1,700 yards on the year. But it will be the Packers’ job to slow that pace, and if they can — with the Vikings otherwise anemic offense — they stand a good chance of winning the game.

Whatever their defense does, however, the Green Bay offense will need slumping quarterback Aaron Rodgers to regain the form he displayed in the first six games of the season, four of which saw Rodgers register a quarterback rating over 100.
Rodgers finally acknowledged this week that he has been playing hurt with a sore shoulder and is listed on the team’s weekly injury report as “probable” for Sunday’s game.
