The Green Bay Packers are facing some troubling rumors regarding quarterback Aaron Rodgers, with league sources saying his calf injury may be much worse than originally thought.

Rodgers has been dealing with the effects of a strained calf, and was held out of practice on Wednesday. Now sources close to the team are saying that the calf has a slight tear in it in addition to the significant strain.

“There’s no question he will play, but there’s also no question he will not be 100 percent,” one doctor familiar with the injury told ESPN . “The question is whether he’ll be 95 percent or 50 percent.”

While the rumors may indicate a difficult time for the Green Bay Packers, it appears certain that Aaron Rodgers will play in Sunday’s matchup against the Dallas Cowboys.

“I’m going on Sunday,” Rodgers said Wednesday. “It’s just a matter of how.”

Green Bay Packers coach Mick McCarthy said Rodgers is responding well to the rehab, but he can’t predict how the next

“I plan on Aaron playing Sunday,” McCarthy said after Wednesday’s practice. “Today’s schedule was for him to stay exclusively in the training room. There’s still some things that he needs to work through. We’ll see what tomorrow brings, if he’ll be able to practice. It’s day-to-day, but everything points in the direction of him playing.”

Rodgers added that he doesn’t know when he’ll be able to return to practice, saying “it just kind of depends on how it feels.”

“I met with Doc. I’ve seen him every day. Nothing really changed on the schedule,” Rodgers said. “This was kind of the plan from the start. It’s progressing, but we’ll see how it feels tomorrow.”

The Green Bay Packers will likely need a healthy Aaron Rodgers on Sunday. The Dallas Cowboys defense has played very well down the stretch, holding opponents to 19.8 points per game and registered 15 takeaways during a five-game winning streak.
