‘Gravity Falls’ Series Ending Disney Run After Two More Episodes, Wins BAFTA

Disney’s animated series, Gravity Falls , is ending after two more episodes this month. The series has been a Disney staple since 2012 and Gravity Falls creator Alex Hirsch announced on Tumblr and Twitter that the series would be ending. An quote from his Tumblr post is below.

“There’s no easy way to say it so I’m just going to say it: Gravity Falls is coming to an end…there are two more episodes left: ‘Weirdmageddon II: Escape from Reality’ and ‘Weirdmageddon III’ which will be our hour long series finale. After that, Gravity Falls as we know it will be over.”

Dead line reported the news also, calling attention to the Tumblr post that Hirsch was ending the show on his own, that Gravity Falls wasn’t being canceled. Hirsch explained why he was ending the series on his Tumblr account by saying “This is 100% my choice, and its something I decided on a very long time ago,”

“I always designed Gravity Falls to be a finite series about one epic summer- a series with a beginning, middle, and end. There are so many shows that go on endlessly until they lose their original spark, or mysteries that are cancelled before they ever get a chance to payoff.”

Hirsch also explains in his Tumblr post that he wanted Gravity Falls to “have a mystery that had a real answer, an adventure that had a real climax, and an ending that had a real conclusion for the characters I care so much about.” He said that Disney had been enormously supportive of his decision and that he was grateful that Disney had the vision to let him start and end the show the way he wanted to. Hirsch said he wasn’t allowed to announce the series ending until now. Hirsch also said that Gravity Falls wasn’t meant to be a permanent series, it was meant to be likened to the experience of summer, in “a larger sense a story about childhood itself.”
“The fact that childhood ends is exactly what makes it so precious- and why you should cherish it while it lasts.”

Hirsch posed a few questions to himself and answered them, confirming that he truly was ending Gravity Falls and that it was not a joke or a hoax. Hirsch ended the Tumblr post with a secret message, “PS: pqxv tbfoa” True fans will know how to decode it!

Gravity Falls was much more than a children’s cartoon. The animated series has been nominated for numerous awards and has won several, including the 2014 Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Award for “Outstanding Individual Achievement in Animation,” the 2014 42nd Annie Awards for “Outstanding Achievement, Directing in an Animated TV/Broadcast Production,” an award in 2015 for “Outstanding Individual Achievement in Animation” from the 67th Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards, and another just recently (today) won the “International” award from the British Academy Children’s Awards from BAFTA.

The series will be missed by its fans young and old alike. There have been many fan videos uploaded to YouTube talking about the series ending. The fan below explains why he thinks Gravity Falls ending is a good thing.
