This morning, the nominations for the 73rd Golden Globe Awards were announced in Los Angeles. The ceremony, hosted by Ricky Gervais, will be held on January 10. The awards, sponsored by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, will be handed out in 25 categories.
According to the Los Angeles Times , 14 awards are in film and 11 in television. A complete list of the nominees is included .
“Three-time host Ricky Gervais will return to emcee the gala at its usual haunt, the Beverly Hilton Hotel. The show will be telecast live on NBC from 5 – 8 p.m. Pacific.”

People commented that though the Screen Actors Guild nominations were announced yesterday, a few entertainers were vindicated with a Golden Globe nod , and some were still snubbed. Others came as a total surprise, like Sylvester Stallone, who was nominated for Best Supporting Actor.
“Nearly four decades after Sylvester Stallone first entered the boxing ring as Rocky Balboa, the actor is up, once again, for his work as the iconic fictional Philadelphian.”
But no other awards were given to Creed , where Stallone comes back as the iconic Rocky.
“In Creed , Stallone stays on the sidelines as a coach for the young hopeful Michael B. Jordan. Stallone’s nomination was the only one for the film.”
Johnny Depp was tapped for a Screen Actors Guild Award for Black Mass , but he and his film were totally shut out of the Golden Globes.
Amy Schumer got shut out of the SAG awards yesterday for Trainwreck , but will now find herself in competition for best actor against Jennifer Lawrence.
“Not only is the Schumer-penned flick up for Best Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy, though – the star is as well. After a banner year – which included an Emmy win – PEOPLE’s latest cover star will face off against new BFF Jennifer Lawrence for an acting Golden Globe. The nod is a pleasant surprise after being skipped over by the SAGs yesterday.”

E! Online had their own take on who is excited and who just pulled up the covers and went back to bed. They highlighted one of the bigger snubs, which was one with big names, Suffragette .
“ Suffragette was another notable major snub, considering it opened to favorable reviews and featured critically acclaimed actresses including Meryl Streep, Carey Mulligan and Helena Bonham Carter. Still, the names nor the subject matter—the film explored women’s battle for the right to vote at the turn of the century—were not enough to earn a single nomination.”
But two notable names have reappeared on this year’s Golden Globe list. Will Smith and Matt Damon are once again in the running.
“In happier news, both Will Smith and Matt Damon got surprise recognition for their roles in Concussion and The Martian , respectively. Though, both are up against extreme competition—Smith will be facing off against The Danish Girl ‘s Eddie Redmayne and The Revenant ‘s Leonardo DiCaprio, while Damon is up against The Big Short ‘s Steve Carrell and Christian Bale.”

To add a bit of levity to the early morning announcement, US Weekly says that Dennis Quaid was stumped when he had to announce that actor Saoirse Ronan was nominated for an award. Instead of the correct Gaelic pronunciation of Seer-sha, he flubbed it as Sheesha, and Twitter took the ball and remembered flubs from year’s past.
