Supermodel Gisele Bundchen and Super Bowl winning quarterback Tom Brady may find that a tony Massachusetts country club is too exclusive even for them, the Daily Mail is reporting .
The Country Club at Brookline has been catering to Massachusetts’ well-to-do for over a century, so the fabulously rich Gisele and Tom — who just finished work on a 14,000 square-foot mansion just a stone’s throw away — would seem like a perfect fit, right? Well, not so fast: Like many businesses that cater to the well-heeled, The Country Club values discretion above all else .
As a “prominent Boston businessman” tells the Boston Globe , “The Country Club believes your name should appear in the newspaper just two times: When you’re born and when you die.”
Gisele and Tom are pretty much the opposite of that. The power couple are all but followed around Boston constantly by the paparazzi, and Brady himself has generated more than his fair share of controversy not just in the Boston media, but worldwide, thanks to his involvement in the cheating scandal known as “ Deflategate .”
Country Club president David Chag declined to comment on the club’s membership policies, and most certainly wouldn’t divulge any information about who might be members.
“When it comes to issues related to members or membership, it’s our policy not to comment. It’s a private club, and we don’t answer those kinds of questions.”
Speaking strictly anonymously, a couple of Club members said they wouldn’t mind having Gisele or Tom around. One female member was particularly excited at the possibility of meeting Tom Brady.
“I would support them, yes. My husband isn’t around to gawk at Gisele, but if Tom Brady wants to come home with me, he can do that any time!”
Another member thinks Gisele and Tom might bring some life to the club.
“Personally I hope they get in. I think if Tom and Gisele were at the club playing volleyball, a lot more people would be hanging around.”
Having a couple of members on board with the idea may not be enough for Tom and Gisele, unfortunately. As the Daily Mail explains, applicants — who have to put up $250,000 just to join, to say nothing of the annual fees — are subject to rigorous screening even before they’re voted on. Then, when the voting takes place, a single objection from a member can doom the applicant’s chances.
Needless to say, Gisele and Tom may have to look for another Boston country club to hang out at during the off-season.
