‘Game Of Thrones’ Will Finish: George R.R. Martin Accepts ‘GoT’ Will Finish On TV

Game of Thrones will finish on television before author George R. R. Martin completes the series in print. According to the Huffington Post , the super popular HBO series has caught up to where Martin’s last book left off, and with two more books ( The Winds of Winter and A Dream of Spring ) left to go, Martin has realized that the show is going to far surpass their releases — which could take years.

It’s something that Martin said he was worried about, but he has now accepted how it’s likely going to be, and he’s not about to let anyone rush him into finishing his work.

“The show is moving forward like a locomotive, or sometimes a jet locomotive. They’re writing 60-page scripts, I’m writing 1,500-page novels. So who the hell knows? There was a period where I was worried about that, then I said, to hell with that. Worrying about it isn’t going to change it one way or another. I still sit down at the typewriter, and I have to write the next scene and the next sentence… I’m just going to tell my story, and they’re telling their story and adapting my books, and we shall see,” said Martin.

Learning that Game of Thrones will finish on HBO is bothersome to many fans who have read Martin’s novels before tuning in to the show each season. However, showrunners D.B. Weiss and David Benioff have said that the ending of the show may not line up with how Martin chooses to end the story in his novels. This means, of course, that the novels may not be ruined by the show’s finale, which will likely come in Season 8.

According to Geek Wire , Martin is going forward with an “anything is possible” attitude. He’s doing his best to complete the series, but with no new book published over the past four years, fans are getting quite antsy. Before being asked if his next novel would be in print before Season 6 of Game of Thrones begins, Martin made sure to get people off his back.

“Don’t ask me when the book is going to be done — I’ll ask my minions to lop your head off,” he said, jokingly.

As Geek Wire points out, there have already been quite a few differences between Martin’s books and the HBO series, so there may be a lot more surprises in store (let’s face it, that’s a no-brainer).

“ Game of Thrones recently concluded its fifth season on HBO with a blizzard of cliffhangers, including some plot twists that deviate from what’s been laid out in the five books published so far. The sixth season is likely to stray even further from what happens in the yet-to-be-published ‘Winds of Winter’ novel. For example, the character who was featured in today’s reading, Princess Arianne of Dorne, doesn’t even appear in the TV version, Martin noted.”
