Game of Thrones fans are still seething over the wedding night horror for Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner) on the notoriously violent series, but according to a preview video originally released on OSN and now posted on YouTube , fans can expect at least one villain to run into some karmic payback this week. The video contains two huge spoilers for this week’s episode of Game of Thrones , “The Gift,” so do not read on and unless you want to know about a death and a major plot element in advance of the episode.
First of all, the bad news in the spoilers is that the Night’s Watch has lost its most critical member. No, not Jon Snow ( Kit Harington ), but Maester Aemon (Peter Vaughan) is dead. What is even more shocking than his death, is how it happened. He wasn’t beheaded, he wasn’t burned alive, but he simply died of — old age. This is a first on Game of Thrones . The clip shows footage from his funeral and Game of Thrones fans will be left wondering what will happen with the Night’s Watch now that their moral compass is gone.
And speaking of moral compasses, the High Sparrow (Jonathan Pryce) continues his rampage this week on Game of Thrones . Queen Margery (Natalie Dormer) was jailed along with her brother for her lies under oath about his sexual preferences, thanks to Cersei (Lena Headey.) But moral judgment can become a double-edged sword, as certain members of a reality show family can tell you right now. In a deliciously cruel twist of irony, the High Sparrow was put into power by Cersei, and now he’s wielding his power against her.
Yes, the Queen Mother of Mean is going to get a big healthy dose of her own medicine this week. You Game of Thrones fans may want to watch the clip before you continue so you can savor firsthand Cersei’s expression going from her usual smug smirk, to a dawning realization of “uh oh.”
UPDATE: The original video post has now been removed on YouTube, but this video remains online. It shows scenes from Aemon’s funeral and Cersei being thrown in a jail cell after the High Sparrow revealed he had been talking to her most recent lover (and family member) about her lengthy list of moral transgressions.
While this season of Game of Thrones was still filming, reports came out about the difficulty the show had getting permission for Lena Headey to shoot a nude scene on their location in Croatia. Given the High Sparrow’s comments about how Cersei will look without all her finery, it looks she’s about to take her own moral walk of shame on Game of Thrones . Or she likely will at some point, after she stews in a jail cell for awhile.
In other Game of Thrones spoilers in the video, Daenerys (Emilia Clarke) has another intimate counseling session on how to rule before her impending wedding. While that’s not terribly surprising in itself, will she get in touch with her inner cruel Queen and heed the advice given, or resist the temptation to let power go to her head, Cersei-style?
