It has been officially confirmed that Danish actor Pilou Asbæk has been cast as Euron Greyjoy in season 6 of HBO’s Game of Thrones .

Variety confirmed the casting earlier today with the following statement:
“HBO’s Game of Thrones has cast Danish actor Pilou Asbæk as Euron Greyjoy in season six, Variety has confirmed.”
“Euron Greyjoy is the uncle of Theon (Alfie Allen) and Yara (Gemma Whelan) and the younger brother of Balon Greyjoy (Patrick Malahide), Lord of the Iron Islands. In George R. R. Martin’s novels, Euron is a skilled warrior who captains a ship called the Silence, and is known for his tempestuous and unpredictable moods. If season six of “Thrones” follows the Greyjoy storyline from Martin’s “A Song of Ice and Fire” novels, Asbæk’s Euron is likely to play a pivotal role in the series going forward.”
As has been speculated since this rumor started on Game of Thrones fansite Watchers on the Wall , if Euron Greyjoy’s storyline is included in season 6 of Game of Thrones , that means just one thing: the death of Balon Greyjoy, Theon’s father. And if this storyline is confirmed, it also adds weight to the speculation that fans will get to see Lady Stoneheart in season 6 also. Although, with the actor who would portray her, Michelle Fairley, currently in a stage production in London, this doesn’t seem highly likely, although not entirely impossible if her storyline is introduced towards the end of season 6 and some creative photography is implemented.
According to an article the Inquisitr did earlier today , if Euron Greyjoy appears in season 6 of Game of Thrones , it is possible the death of Balon Greyjoy will occur as a result of Euron Greyjoy, Balon’s brother. The other option is that one of the “faceless men” whose storyline was introduced in season 5 of Game of Thrones will be responsible.
As yet, in the book series, it is unclear who is responsible for the death of Balon Greyhjoy, so with Pilou Asbæk joining the cast as Euron Greyjoy, this will be a huge book spoiler if the storyline is ultimately resolved in the TV series first.
Game of Thrones returns for season 6 on HBO in 2016.
