The full trailer for Season 2 of Fargo has been revealed, and it looks like business as usual – the darkness has returned to Minnesota.

The crime drama series, inspired by the 1996 film of the same name, has been a huge hit for FX since it’s inception in 2014. A successful first season featured Colin Hanks, Keith Carradine, Billy Bob Thornton and Martin Freeman amongst the experienced cast, and Season 2 is imminent for patient viewers.

The trailer introduces a fresh cast, which features Kirsten Dunst, Patrick Wilson, Ted Danson, Kieran Culkin, Nick Offerman, Jean Smart, Jeffrey Donovan, Cristin Milioti, and Jesse Plemons. The season begins with a robbery-gone-wrong at a local Waffle Hut, which results in several fatalities. The murder, intrigue, mystery, and crime takes place against the blank white canvas of snowy Minnesota, darkened only by the twisted characters that blemish it.

Showrunner Noah Hawley made it clear, in an interview with Entertainment Weekly , that Season 2 of Fargo would be bigger in scope despite sticking to its roots and small town locations. There was even rumours of a rivalry with fellow crime drama, True Detective . You can read the details in this previous article .

For anyone who watches Fargo , you know nothing is what it seems. Set in 1979, between Sioux Falls, South Dakota and Lauverne, Wilson’s younger Lou Solverson (portrayed in his later years by Keith Carradine in Season 1, making Season 2 a prequel) realizes the robbery may be a cover up for the targeted murder of a judge. With an imminent visit by then-Republican presidential candidate, Ronald Reagan (Bruce Campbell in a much hyped role), Solverson must ensure the murders are solved and the people of Fargo are protected whilst he goes about his duty to the presidential elect. Season 1 introduced us to a mature, experienced Solverson; one who spoke cryptically of the tragic dealings in Sioux Falls on multiple occasions. With his daughter in the frame for Season 1, now it’s Lou’s turn to take the spotlight.

As the mystery of the deaths grips Fargo in it’s icy hand, things begin to unravel and a local crime syndicate becomes prominent, threatening all involved. It appears no one is safe in Fargo.. .but we knew that anyway. In a town where the innocent are few, the lazy are corrupt and the evil are invisible, bad things are going to happen.

Season 2 of Fargo comes to FX in October.
