Fox announced today that it was pulling episodes of Family Guy and American Dad from its Sunday night lineup in the wake of the Sandy Hook elementary school shooting .

Fox did not give a specific reason as to why they were pulling the episodes but the network most likely decided that the episodes contained insensitive material. The new episodes, entitled Jesus, Mary and Joseph! and Minstrel Krampus are expected to air at a later date.

Fox will air repeats of Family Guy and American Dad on Sunday night. The network will run new episodes of The Simpsons and Bob’s Burgers as scheduled.

Entertainment Weekly reports that SyFy made a similar decision on Thursday night. The network decided to pull an episode of Haven that featured high school violence.

The new Tom Cruise movie has also been temporarily shelved . Jack Reacher was scheduled to hit theaters today but Paramount Pictures has decided to delay the release in the wake of the school shooting.

Paramount said:

“Due to the terrible tragedy in Newtown, Connecticut, and out of honor and respect for the families of the victims whose lives were senselessly taken, we are postponing tomorrow’s Pittsburgh premiere of Jack Reacher . Our hearts go out to all those who lost loved ones.”

While several networks and movie studios have decided to pull content in respect to the victims in Newtown, Connecticut, a few local CBS stations have decided to take a different approach. CBS announced last night that it would not run any news promos or updates during its children’s programming.

Do you think the networks are making the right decision by pulling shows with questionable content in the wake of the Sandy Hook school shooting?
