Facebook Testing Its Own Mobile Purchasing Program

These days it’s pretty easy to purchase anything you want from your mobile phone. Since technology has become more advanced and easier to utilize, different payment services have sprung up like Amazon and PayPal. Now according to All Things D , it looks like Facebook wants to be a part of that too, by launching their own purchasing program.

Facebook is currently testing their own payments program. Earlier Facebook confirmed the news to ABC News about their new purchasing program. The program will let consumers shelve out purchases with credit card information that is stored on their Facebook account. This is assuming that Facebook gets a better security and privacy system, that won’t be let their clients’ information be in danger of a security breach.

Of course it’s easy to see why they would want to use this particular system, as Facebook already has some users information on file due to the buying of gifts and in-game-purchases on its site. Their new system is said to be a one-click purchasing system that saves information including billing addresses, expiration dates, and security code across all of the devices.

So far Facebook has decided to test the program on JackThreads, which is a flash-sales site, which has a demographic targeting at young men. It’s not yet known whether or not Facebook will be branching out from JackThreads, but it would be a smart business move if they did.

A spokesperson told ABC News:

“We are working on a very small test that lets people populate their payment information already on file with Facebook into the checkout form of a mobile phone app when they are making a purchase. The app then uses their existing payments processor to complete the transaction. The test makes it easier and faster for people to make a purchase in a mobile app by simply pre-populating your payment information.”

That said, this purchasing program won’t be for everyone. As its consumers are already nervous when it comes to giving their credit card information over to the internet. However, PayPal manages to convince its customers, so if Facebook can adopt this secure reputation, and come at the angle that PayPal does, perhaps they can actually make this work.

Are you on board with Facebook’s new purchasing program?
