Facebook is following in the footsteps of MySpace by instituting new, stricter safeguards to protect underage users on its site.

Connecticut Attorney General Richard Blumenthal, along with attorneys general from several other states, announced the changes at lunchtime today.

The Associated Press reports more than 40 new measures will be put in place to keep kids safe from sexual predators, scammers, and even good old-fashioned bullies. Facebook will also start keeping registered sex offenders from signing up with the site, and, like MySpace, will make it tougher to search for underage users.
