Emma Watson’s character in The Bling Ring is “vain,” superficial,” “materialistic” and “amoral.” Which is why the actress watched a lot of Keeping Up With The Kardashians to prepare for the role.
The actress said that she watched episodes of Keeping Up With The Kardashians, The Hills and The World According To Paris in order to get into character.
Watson said : “It’d be very easy for (my character) Nicki to feel like a parody … Somehow I had to understand and empathize with her and that was really biggest challenge, second to getting the accent down. It’s quite a specific dialect.”
Watson’s latest role is a big departure from the Harry Potter movies but Watson said that it was fun to play a character that was so different from her previous roles.
Watson said : “The character is everything that I felt strongly against. She’s superficial, materialistic, vain, amoral. She’s all of these things and I realized that I hated her. How do you play someone you hate? But I found it really interesting and it gave me a whole new insight into what my job or my role as an actress could be.”
The Bling Ring premiered today at the Cannes Film Festival. It is scheduled to hit theaters this June.
