Texas woman Emma Rodriguez has been sentenced to 45 years in prison for killing her 2-year-old daughter, Beautiful, by throwing the little girl on her crib after having repeatedly slapped her face, according to KSAT12-TV .
Rodriguez was apprehended by the police and charged with capital murder by prosecutors. She faced life in prison without the option of parole. However, in a plea deal with the prosecutors, the 27-year-old Texan woman pleaded guilty to one charge of injury to a child causing serious bodily injury in exchange for a reduced sentence.
Rodriguez’s lawyer, Edward Bartolomie, made the case for her by pointing out that Emma herself had a very difficult childhood and has struggled with drug addiction all her life. Bartolomie told the courthouse that his client was suffering from severe trauma and had to take care of seven children at the time.
“It’s a tragedy for everybody. She came from an extremely abused background; (Child Protective Services) has been involved in her life since she was 2; she used drugs.”
The Texan mother corroborated this statement, telling the judge that she was extremely “frustrated” at the time of the death and that she slapped her daughter and tossed her into the crib because the little girl was “crying too much,” reports Fox News.
It is possible the District Judge Kevin O’Connell might not have taken lightly to this statement.

As reported by MySA , Emma Rodriguez was arrested when she was 26 after law enforcement officials and emergency medical technicians responded to a call about a severely wounded and unconscious child. The little girl, named Beautiful, was taken to a nearby hospital but died of bilateral hemorrhaging and bleeding inside her head. Reports by the Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office suggested that Beautiful had been tossed more than once before suffering the serious injury. The child hit her head against the wall the first time she was thrown by Rodriguez, while the second time she received the fatal wound by hitting her head against a metal object on the crib.
Emma Rodriguez gave birth to her eighth child while awaiting trial in the jail, but has relinquished the rights to all her remaining children, all of whom have subsequently been placed in foster homes.
