Emily Blunt is talking about her social media avoidance issues, and it seems she has a good reason for steering clear of internet networking. The Edge of Tomorrow actress also opened up about the challenges of working on Sicario and dropped just a few teases for her next project, The Girl on the Train .
Emily Blunt’s Reasons For Avoiding Social Media Are Almost Convincing
By now, it seems everyone has at least one social media account and for the average person, it’s a great way to keep track of your favorite politicians, musicians, actresses, and so on. This holds true for almost everyone, unless your favorite actress happens to be Emily Blunt. You won’t find her on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or any of the other countless social media sites and, if you think you have found her, Ms. Blunt’s own statements on the matterprove you’re looking at a fake profile.
“I’m like a dinosaur with that stuff, No. 1. But it’s also not really an organic sort of fit for me. I can barely remember to text people back! I also feel that my job is to persuade people that I’m somebody else, so if I reveal too much, then I’m doing my job a disservice, in a way.”
That leaves only the interviews conducted with Blunt for fans to get up close and personal with the actress. There’s no convincing Emily to reveal tidbits through Twitter Q&A sessions or Facebook private messaging, leaving us to glean clues from Blunt’s responses to requests for comments. That said, Emily was recently asked about her latest upcoming film project, The Girl on the Train , even though it seemed unlikely that she would be able to reveal any real details about the film.
“Well, I can say that it’s really beautiful. It’s crazy and fun and beautiful. I’m excited about it.”
That’s all she would give us. Never let it be said Emily can’t keep a secret.
Emily Blunt Dishes The Little Known Details About Her Sicario Character
Kate, Emily’s Sicariocharacter, is someone who exists in the very macho world of an F.B.I. drug trafficking task force, while also trying to hold onto her femininity. Blunt credits her director, Denis Villeneuve, for allowing her to help mold the character into a woman capable of balancing the two worlds. Emily says that she based the character on a real agent she met, while working on Sicariowith F.B.I. consultants.
“She was really shy, but also an incredibly resilient, steely individual.”
Blunt also reveals that, although not much of Kate Macer’s history made it onto the screen, there’s much more to the character than meets the eye. Emily reveals that Kate is a newly divorced woman and that the cigar box-sized apartment is her new start. She’s a loner, someone defined by the job that she does and, because of that, relationships, even friendships, are difficult for her to maintain.
Sicario is gritty and somber, but Ms. Blunt reveals that the film also has brief moments of humor. One such scene has Kate Macer commenting that she needs a new bra, which the actress says helps to develop the character into a three dimensional figure.
“It was so great working like that because you were able to see Kate literally and figuratively letting her hair down for a second — and then you see the consequences of it.”
Emily feels that melding moments of comic relief to keep the moments of tension from getting too dark really helps the film, overall. She’s also happy to see women being cast as these kinds of dark, anti heroic protagonists.
Sicario is currently showing in theaters.
