Ellie Goulding released a new single Thursday, and the rumor mill instantly started churning.
Could Goulding’s song, titled “On My Mind” be about Ed Sheeran?

Goulding quickly attempted to shut down the rumors, telling MTV.com about the song.
“I’m sorry to all the people that want it to be about someone — it’s not, it’s like a myth.”
From his X album, Sheeran released a single in 2014 called “Don’t,” which has long been rumored to be about Goulding. Sheeran’s song, which tells the story of a hotel tryst and whirlwind relationship which ultimately ends in angry heartbreak, including the lyrics “don’t mess with my love.”
Similarly, Goulding’s song includes the lyrics “You don’t mess with love, you mess with the truth.”
The lyrics seem too close to be a coincidence, yet Goulding insists that the song isn’t about Sheeran, and it’s not a response to Sheeran’s song. But those aren’t the only lyrics which make fans believe “On My Mind” is a response to “Don’t.” Here are a few more lyrics from Goulding’s song.
“Thought you were cute and could make me jealous/ Pour it down, so I poured it down/Next thing that I know, I’m in a hotel with you/ You were talking deep like it was mad love to you/ You wanted my heart, but I just liked your tattoos.”
Sheeran is known for his plethora of tattoos all over his body , including this lion which he had tattooed on his chest earlier this summer.

Again, despite the seemingly obvious reference to Ed Sheeran, Ellie Goulding insists that the new single is not about the red-headed British crooner. Instead, she told MTV.com that she likes guys with tattoos, mentioning her boyfriend, McBusted’s Dougie Poynter.
“I like guys with tattoos, my boyfriend has tattoos…but I don’t mind. People can read into it however they want. It’s fun to do that, I would do that too.”
