Ellie Goulding may have combated rumors regarding her own dating life earlier this week when she shot down reports that suggested she previously dated British singers Ed Sheeran and One Direction’s Niall Horan, however, Goulding is opening up about playing a part in someone else’s dating life: close friends Taylor Swift and Calvin Harris.
Goulding dished to Cosmopolitan that she played matchmaker for her close friends, revealing that Swift’s height made her a perfect match for the “Outside” DJ, USA Today confirms.
“I did play matchmaker, that’s true. Calvin is a really great mate, and he’s so fantastic, and Taylor is such a cool person who I love. I thought, ‘They’re both really awesome and both really tall. They’ll be brilliant together.’”
The claims are in contrast to previous reports that suggested that it was actually the Haim sisters who introduced Harris to Swift, not Goulding, TMZ confirms.
Regardless, E! Online reports that Goulding’s pal was instantly “smitten” by the songstress when they ran into one another at the Brit Awards in February, the site confirms.
Goulding also took the time to speak out against rumors that suggest she deleted a recent photo of herself and Katy Perry amid rumors that Swift and the “Dark Horse” singer are in the midst of a huge feud.
Ellie posted the photo to Instagram, showing her partying among friends Perry and Lorde, captioning the shot, “Don’t really remember this but…good times,” before adding a dancing emoji.
However, Ellie swiftly deleted the picture, leaving fans to believe that perhaps Goulding was trying to avoid upsetting Swift by hanging out with Perry, especially since Goulding was featured in the songstress’ new music video for “Bad Blood,” which is widely believed to have been inspired by her feud with Perry, Yahoo! reports.
When asked why she decided to delete the photo, Goulding laughed off the rumors, insisting that she simply didn’t like the way she looked in the pic and decided to delete it.
“Ohhh, I deleted that because I looked bad in it. And I think I was a bit drunk. And I thought it wasn’t a very good example of myself. That’s so funny that um, that’s even a thing. No, I delete things all the time! I’m great friends with Katy, I’m great friends with Taylor. That’s very silly…I zoomed in on my actual photo, and I was like, ‘No.’”
Regardless of Ellie’s claims, fans still believe that Goulding was trying to avoid a potential spat with close friend Swift, especially after she dissed Sheeran in an interview by combating his reports that suggested he dated Goulding for a brief period.
