Residents at the Princess Tower in Dubai are going to have a long walk up their apartments. The world’s tallest residential tower , which has people living on 97 floors, is currently without an elevator.
According to Construction Week Online , a water leak from the fire protection system has shut down all eight elevator shafts. Furniture deliveries at the building have been banned, and residents on the higher floors have to get special permission from the reception office to use one of the lifts.
Mark Maynard, the manager of the building, said that the elevator problem wasn’t too much of a convenience since it occurred during the middle of the day. The elevators for the first 50 floors were out for about two hours while it took another 12 for people to get access to the top floors.
Maynard said : “The leak on the 96th floor happened at midday and it was two hours before we got the lifts working to serve the first 50 floors. Fortunately it was the middle of the day so it was not too inconvenient for people. Our lift technicians were here within 30 minutes and we had two of the upper floor lifts operating by 11.30pm but with a manual lift operator.”
The Princess Tower is 101 stories tall and has 97 residential floors. It was built in 2012 and is the tallest residential building in the world.
