The stars of Duck Dynasty are known for their conservative family values and have been vocal on their pro-life stance. However, one Duck Dynasty star doesn’t share the same staunch position on abortion as the other Robertsons. Lisa Robertson says that she is pro-choice and actually had an abortion when she was a young girl.
Alan, “Al,” and Lisa Robertson sat down with Huffington Post and spoke about their new book, A New Season: A Robertson Family Love Story of Brokenness and Redemption . In the book, Lisa talks about a life of “drugs, sex and pregnancy” before she was married. Lisa admits that she had an abortion as a teen during this troubled period in her life. Lisa is open and honest about the abortion but says it is something that she “truly regret[s].”
“I could have had three children and I messed that up. There has not been — maybe a day has gone by — that I have not thought of this child. … [A]t the time it was the answer that I sought. As I sit here today that is not the answer I would have chosen had I known better, had I been more mature in my thinking.”
Lisa says that though the rest of the Robertson clan is adamantly pro-life, she is herself pro-choice. When asked if she would call herself pro-choice, Lisa responded, “Yes, I would.” Lisa says that though her religious beliefs do not include abortion, she does not want to place her beliefs on others as everyone will have to answer to God in the end, including herself.
“I’m not going to put my belief on you… If that’s the way you feel then that’s your choice … in the end, you have to speak to God about that and so will I.”
Though Lisa says she is pro-choice, Al noted that he is not pro-choice.
“It’s best not to have a choice to end life. I wish there weren’t abortion in the world, but there is.”
