Last August rapper and R&B crooner Drake announced that he was making a posthumous album with Aaliyah. This posthumous album would feature collaborations with the late singer, as Drake planned to rap over her vocals that were left on the cutting room floor. Fortunately after Drake experienced major backlash we never heard about this project every again.

Fast forward and it’s a year later, and it looks like Drake is finally ready to reveal what happened to his Aaliyah album. In this particular Aaliyah project, Drake was slated to act as producer, as well as Aaliyah’s collaborator.

Of the scrapped project, Drake said in a CRWN interview :

“Before things went downhill with it, I was actually working with my dream collaboration. Me and 40 were working on this Aaliyah album that kind of got blown out of proportion. There are records with me and Aaliyah that no one has ever heard and they’re really good.”

At the time, when the news broke of Drake’s album with Aaliyah, Aaliyah’s brother Rashad Haughton, and collaborators Missy Elliott and Timbaland were said to be vehemently against the record from happening. Haughton had said on Facebook: “There is no official album being released and supported by the family.”

A few months ago Timbaland was still talking about Drake’s album with Aaliyah, having said: “A lot of these rappers out here are awful. Chris Brown got a record [with Aaliyah]. It won’t work. Drake could do a record with Aaliyah. It ain’t going to work.”

Drake had revealed why he scrapped the Aaliyah project, but by now it’s pretty obvious why, considering Drake was the only one that thought it was a good idea.

Of the scrapped project, Drake said:

“I think the press got out of hand. They maybe just had a different vision for it. I’m not sure. It was sounding great to me.”

Would you listen to Drake’s posthumous album of Aaliyah?
