‘Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection of F’ Gets American Release Date, Trailer

The latest in a long line of Dragon Ball Z movies, Resurrection of ‘F’ (or as it will be titled in North America, Resurrection F ) has been breaking box office records in Japan as previously reported by the Inquisitr .

Now, Funimation, the North American licensor of the Dragon Ball series, has named an official English-dubbed release date for the movie and released a teaser trailer, according to a report from Forbes .

The movie is set to show for just one week in theaters, August 4-12. As IGN notes, tickets aren’t on sale yet, but fans can sign up on the Dragon Ball Z website to be notified when they are. The film will supposedly only air in a limited number of theaters, and fans are anxiously awaiting their official notification.

Although there is no information yet on what theaters will be showing Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection F , if the last movie, Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods, is any indication of what Funimation views as a limited release, it will be shown in roughly 800 theaters across the United States and Canada. Watch the full trailer below:

As Attack of the Fanboy notes, the movie has, to date, grossed over $33 million USD at the Japanese box office, making it the highest-grossing Dragon Ball movie of all time (and making Japan the only country where Furious 7 didn’t open at number one.) It will be interesting to see how the movie does in North America as the hype is much higher than for Battle of Gods; especially since they are using it to hype the new series, Dragon Ball Super , as well.

For those still not in the know, Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection F takes place about a year after the events in Battle of Gods , placing it roughly five years after the end of Dragon Ball Z . While the timeline for Dragon Ball Super hasn’t been officially confirmed yet, it is rumored that Resurrection F is setting the stage for the new series, and Super will begin within a year of where Resurrection F left off. If true, this would confirm that the events of Dragon Ball GT are not official canon; something that has been debated since the series first aired. Dragon Ball GT was the first and only Dragon Ball installment not to involve series creator Akira Toriyama – beyond some very minor input – and to have no accompanying manga.

It’s worth noting that Resurrection F will be arriving in North American theaters after Dragon Ball Super starts in Japan, so dedicated fans may wish to hold off on watching the new series, if available, until they’ve seen the latest movie.

If they’re capable of waiting – I know I’m not.
