Doomsday Castle is set to premiere on the National Geographic Channel. The reality program follows a family as they prepare for an apocalypse. Hidden somewhere in the Carolina backwoods, the castle’s exact location is never revealed.

The family’s last name is kept secret as well. Brent Sr. is the father of ten. He and five of his grown children build the castle to prepare for doomsday.

As reported by Yahoo News, the family built the stone castle themselves. The fortress includes a drawbridge and a secure underground bunker . They plan to add a catapult in the near future.

Brent Sr. got the idea to build a doomsday castle prior to the Y2K scare. He is concerned that an electromagnetic pulse could take out the power grid and “destroy computers.” Brent explains that an EMP could be sparked by a nuclear explosion or a solar flare .

The castle is expected to protect Brent Sr. and his family from outsiders. Brent Sr. points out that in a doomsday scenario, people will be desperate for food and supplies.

The walls of the castle will keep most people out. However, the family also plans to use medieval weapons to defend their home. They are all receiving training to use bows and arrows.

Brent Sr. states that it is his duty as a father to protect his family. Each of his children will live in the castle for five weeks every year. In case of an emergency, the entire family will meet at the site.

As reported by NPR, Brent Sr. routinely holds drills to test his family’s response time.

Brent Sr. has grown more concerned in recent years. He explains that weapons, ammunition, and ready-to-eat meals, are in short supply. He notes “a lot of weird stuff is happening that doesn’t make a lot of sense.”

Doomsday Castle will premier Tuesday night on National Geographic. The show is a spinoff of the popular Doomsday Preppers.
