Former NFL star Donovan McNabb was reportedly charged with a DUI after being arrested in Arizona last week.

TMZ reports that the 38-year-old former quarterback rear-ended a vehicle that was stopped at a red light around 11:35 p.m. on June 28.

According to the Gilbert Police Department, the officers dispatched to the scene of the accident determined that McNabb was drunk. Donovan was arrested for driving under the influence and transported to the nearby precinct for booking.

The former longtime Philadelphia Eagles quarterback was eventually released from custody, according to TMZ .

John Kelly, an Arizona DUI attorney, reportedly opened up to TMZ about what McNabb could possibly face from a legal standpoint.

“Donovan is realistically looking at 9 to 10 days in jail if convicted of a normal DUI (the punishment could get a lot worse if his blood alcohol level was ‘extreme’).”

This was not the first time that Donovan McNabb has been faced with a DUI charge. The Syracuse University alum was also arrested for DUI in Maricopa County, Arizona in December 2013.

Multiple reports confirmed that McNabb was pulled over for speeding at 3 a.m. and spent one day in an Arizona jail after nine days from his original sentence were suspended.

USA Today reported that according to a copy of the citation, Donovan was clocked by radar driving 81 miles per hour in his Range Rover within a 65-mph zone.

Since it is the second time that Donovan was arrested for driving under the influence, Kelly claims that he may end up with an ignition interlock system installed inside of his car. This type of system requires the driver to pass a breathalyzer test successfully before turning on the automobile.

In an interview with TMZ , Terrell Owens stated that McNabb’s second DUI arrest should be viewed as a “wake-up” call for his former Eagles teammate.

“DUI is a very serious thing. The number of lives that have been lost from it are staggering. It’s a blessing no one was hurt. We may not still be playing, but we still serve as role models. You have to be more responsible … Next time call Uber.”

Donovan McNabb was first selected by the Philadelphia Eagles in the 1999 NFL Draft . Throughout his professional football career, he played 11 seasons with the Eagles and one season with the Washington Redskins and Minnesota Vikings.
