Former Scrubs star Donald Faison is being sued by United Talent Agency for unpaid commissions.
UTA is claiming they helped Faison land his job on the medical comedy in 2001, and that they convinced producers to pay him $75,356 per episode. But the lawsuit, which was filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court, alleges that the newlywed actor “suddenly stopped making payments” for his 10 percent commission to the agency after the third episode of season 9.
“Faison has not only turned his back on the people that helped slingshot his career, but on his contractual obligations to those people,” the lawsuit says.
UTA is also seeking its 10 percent commission from the $60,000 Faison was paid for the ABC pilot The Law . Altogether, United Talent Agency’s complaint included seven claims: breach of contract, accounting, quantum meruit, common count for services performed, account stated, open book account, and declaratory judgement.
According to Deadline , which obtained UTA’s 10 page complaint , the agency’s track record when it comes to these types of cases is pretty good. Last summer, a federal judge ruled that Men in Black 3 director Barry Sonnenfeld had to pay $325,000 in fees to UTA . Sonnenfeld would also have to pay more if there are more sequels added to the franchise.
As previously reported by The Inquisitr , Men in Black 4 is currently in the works with a script by Oren Uziel, who wrote Mortal Kombat: Rebirth, a short action film that featured an alternate version of the MK universe. Mortal Kombat: Rebirth eventually evolved into the web series Mortal Kombat: Legacy , which explored the origins of several of the characters from the Mortal Kombat universe in a more realistic way.
UTA, who represented Faison for over a decade, is asking for a jury trial against the 38-year-old, who currently hosts TBS’ Punk’d -style freshman series, Who Gets the Last Laugh? Faison will also be starring in Kick-Ass 2 , which is set to be released on August 16.
