‘Destiny 2’ Will Bring Over Player Progress, Vault And Glimmer Expansion Discussed

While Bungie has The Dark Below expansion coming out this week for Destiny and the The House of Wolves coming later, it is also working on a sequel to the multiplayer shooter. Community Manager David “Deej” Dague shared a little about Destiny 2 during an interview at The PlayStation Experience this weekend, as well some changes that might come to the cap in the current iteration of the PlayStation and Xbox game.

Dague told IGN that Bungie “intends to allow” players to carry their Guardians over from Destiny to its sequel.

“The idea is that the Guardian you have created is something you can bring along with you on that adventure. If you take a look at the way people have played other games for a long period of time, they’ve had a relationship with the same character for a very long time.”

That will be welcome, but there are a million details that Destiny owners are bound to have. For example, will characters be able to transfer over cross-platform from PlayStation to Xbox and vice versa or are their characters committed to that platform? Will there be a seamless integration between the games, similar to World of WarCraft and its myriad expansions, or will it be two distinctly separate games?

Bungie is understandably light on these details right now, but Dague did say, “I’ve seen new concept art, I’ve seen new exotic weapons up on people’s screens…it’s a lot of fun to walk around the studio, because there’s always somebody thinking about the next place you’ll go, the next enemy you’ll fight, the next thing that you’ll earn for doing those things.”

Dague also addressed the current limitation with the Glimmer currency cap and Vault limit where players can store items. Players can only carry 25,000 Glimmer across all of their Guardians and the Vault is limited to 20 items, 20 weapons, and 20 pieces of armor.

“I want so badly for us to add more space to the Vault, because it is a constant, constant piece of feedback,” Dague explained to IGN .

“People want to be collectors,” Dague added. “And, if we need to expand the Vault in order to let people hold on to their things, then it’s something that we’re talking about.”

He went on to say that they are discussing raising the Glimmer cap as well.

“We’re very sensitive to what people want, and we’d like to work as quickly as we can to integrate that stuff into the mix,” he explained. “So, while I can’t make promises about the specific elements, I can say that we’re going to continue to support this game.”

Bungie has responded to player complaints with recent updates to the Iron Banner event, as well Exotic weapons and the game’s economy . However, it seemingly took a step back with some of the changes being implemented as part of the transition to The Dark Below . Dague previously commented in a recent Weekly Update on Bungie’s website that the developer respects player’s time. Whether that means they will reconsider some of the changes to the upgrade path of Exotics remains to be seen though.
