Despy Awards Over The Snatch Game? What’s Happened To ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race?’

With 10 Queens left in the running over at RuPaul’s Drag Race , any normal fan would think that this week would have been the Snatch Game. A hilarious and important part of the reality show. But, no. There was no Snatch Game, and I am saddened. Come on, Drag Race , what is going on here?

Instead, the 10 Drag Queens had to get their funny bones into working order for the “Despy Awards.” More like, “Desperate Awards,” if you ask me. You can read my recap here at the Inquisitr . Or, if you aren’t into reading, you could always try Pandora Boxx’s “Ru-Cap.” Warning: There are spoilers.

The mini challenge was better than the main stage awards. Contestants had to make red carpet looks out of paper. The best was the team of Katya and Mrs. Kasha Davis. Katya was a lovely Björk and Kasha was giving some Joan Rivers realness. Katya worked that swan dress.

It was awkward and beautiful. Thank you for this moment, RuPaul’s Drag Race , thank you.

I so sorely missed the Snatch Game. “Despy Awards” were okay since it showed that some of the Queens could plan and deliver jokes. Unsurprisingly, only a few excelled at this task while others just proved that they are not comedians. I am not pointing my fingers at Violet or anything (though, she does know how to dress and paint herself, dang!).

However, the Snatch Game, which aired on RuPaul’s Drag Race since Season 2, tested the Queens’ ability at improv — to be funny without being planned. That is a real task, and one, I think, Drag Queens should possess.

That, and you know, the ability to talk to chickens is important, too.

Apparently, Miss Fame grew up with chickens and learned about their ways. Second best part of the episode, serious. The third best bit was Max and Pearl on stage for the “Despy Awards.” They were by far the funniest of the troop, mimicking Ginger Minj in the photo above. Funny stuff and surprising, seeing as it came partly from Pearl, who was pegged as having no personality.

Still, something is lacking with this new, and not improved, fake award show. I am still holding out that there will be a Snatch Game this season, perhaps when there are eight Drag Queens left.

RuPaul’s Drag Race , let’s cut the #SnatchingTrophies and work more on the #BringBackSnatchGame, okay, girls?
