Derrick Rose Memes: Injuries Make NBA Star A Huge Target On Twitter

NBA star Derrick Rose received a dose of good news Wednesday after undergoing surgery.

Surgery was required to repair the Chicago Bulls point guard’s left orbital fracture – an injury caused when Derrick received an elbow to the face during Tuesday’s practice.

As soon as the news of Rose’s injury started circulating online, quite a few fans and critics were left on the edge of their seats. Many wondered exactly how long this particular injury would force Derrick Rose to sit and watch the game from the sideline instead of leading his team on the court.

Fortunately, according to ESPN , Rose is expected to return to playing basketball in two weeks. The Bulls’ head coach, Fred Hoiberg, opened up about Derrick’s condition – expressing high hopes for his starting point guard’s return in the near future.

“He’s still in great spirits, and again, it’s not a structural injury. When he comes back ready to go he should be able to go right back into it 100 percent — which, if you have something going on with one of your other body parts, it’s going to be you gradually get back. You know, 50 percent load and then move all the way up from mid-restriction. I don’t anticipate that in his case this will happen.”

Derrick Rose’s condition may cause him to miss quite a few of the team’s scheduled preseason games.

However, the 26-year-old former University of Memphis student will more than likely be ready to go before the Bulls go up against the Cleveland Cavaliers in their first game of the regular season on October 27.

Most Chicago Bulls fans are likely excited about having the 2009 NBA Rookie of the Year back on the court before the regular season starts. However, the fact that he has added yet another injury to his growing list of injuries has apparently made Derrick Rose a primary target on Twitter for memes and jokes.

There have been quite a few pictures circulating online that poke fun at exaggerated mask options that Derrick Rose could use to protect his face.

Others simply turned Derrick Rose into the butt of their jokes with witty punchlines and one-liners.

Some tweets and memes simply relied on actual facts and statistics from Derrick Rose’s career.

Over the years, Derrick Rose has suffered a substantial number of injuries that forced him to observe a lot of games from sidelines and bleachers instead of firsthand on the court.

Most people would agree that Derrick’s most significant injury to-date occurred during the first round of the Bulls’ playoff series against the Philadelphia 76ers in 2012.

A failed jumping attempt led to Derrick tearing his ACL – an injury that led to Derrick Rose staying away from another official game until October 5, 2013.

On November 22, 2013, he tore his right knee meniscus during a game against the Portland Trailblazers. He underwent a successful surgery three days later and was benched for the rest of the 2013-14 season, according to the Chicago Tribune .

Damage from that injury apparently reemerged in February 2015 when doctors confirmed that he suffered a medial meniscus tear in the same knee and was forced to miss another 20 games because of it.

Hopefully, Derrick Rose will have a successful recovery from his current injury and maintain high hopes for an injury-free regular season.
