Days of Our Lives has officially been renewed through September 2014, following a teaser from NBC chief Bob Greenblatt last weekend.
“I think Days will stick around,” Greenblatt said Sunday at TCA. “I don’t want to say that officially yet, but I don’t think it’s going anywhere.”
NBC announced Wednesday that the soap opera had been picked up for an additional year. The news comes just days before the soap marks its 12,000th episode, which will air January 11.
“We are thrilled to announce that Days Of Our Lives is not going anywhere,” said NBC president of entertainment Jennifer Salke. “It is NBC’s longest-running drama series by far and is one of the most historic brands in television.”
Steve Mosko, president of Sony Pictures Television — which produces the long-running soap opera — said in a press release :
“ Days of our Lives has maintained a loyal and dedicated fan base for more than four decades and continues to reach a new generation of viewers. We appreciate NBC’s support over the years and, as the show celebrates this significant milestone, we are thrilled that the show will continue to be a part of the NBC family.”
Days of Our Lives premiered as a half hour drama on November 8, 1965. It was expanded to an hour a decade later on April 21, 1975.
The announcement that Days of Our Lives comes shortly after the announcement that ABC’s soap operas, All My Children and One Life to Live will be airing on The Online Network . Production will begin in February. Both soaps were canceled in April 2011 , with the finales airing on September 23, 2011, and January 13, 2012 respectively.
