Dave Chappelle has been sort of missing in action ever since he left Chappelle’s Show famously for a two-week escape to Africa. But now Dave is back in the public eye after Chappelle performed at the Radio City Music Hall in June of this year in New York City. Dave has given GQ an exclusive interview, published on November 18 and titled “ Dave Chappelle Is Back (This Time We’re 100% Sure It’s Maybe Totally for Real) ,” and in true Dave Chappelle style, the humor of the man comes across even in print interviews.

Throughout the article — which has become the fodder for tantalizing headlines like “Dave Chappelle Reveals Why He’s Really Back” by ABC News — Dave offers quips and intense insights into his life and comedy in general, as well as offering compliments to his fellow comedic celebrities.

“I can’t see how my life is harder because Tyler Perry exists.”

Chappelle calls Perry prolific, and sounds truly humbled by the fact that icons like Richard Pryor passed the comedic torch onto Dave. Chappelle also waxes fan-like about other celebrity icons.

“I have a pretty dope selfie gallery.”

If Dave ever does take command of his Twitter account once more, or decide to join Instagram, he’d have legendary selfies to share. Chappelle has taken snapshots with Kanye West, Kim Kardashian, Jay Z and Beyoncé — as well as Jessica Alba and beleaguered Rob Ford, ex-mayor of Toronto.

Dave also offers an interesting outlook on Donald Sterling. While not excusing Sterling’s racist comments, Chappelle shows that he’s more concerned about privacy violations.

“When you think about the intimacy of a situation, like, can a man just chill with his mistress in peace?”

Although the GQ cover of Chappelle shows off a slimmer and more svelte-looking Dave than the public has seen in months, writer Mark Anthony Green calls Chappelle buff, as does the Inquisitr article titled “ Dave Chappelle Shows Off Buff Dramatic New Look ” earlier this year, wherein more of Dave is on display than in the GQ photo gallery accompanying the new article naming Dave Chappelle one of their “Men of the Year.”

“You know, I should really drive. ‘Cause nobody has ever taken me to a place I actually want to go.”

The thought process and profile of Chappelle reveals that Dave is a man who has been able to rebound from his famous departure from Chappelle’s Show and return with grace, happy that plenty of Chappelle fans are grateful for his return.
