The season finale of Star Wars Rebels will see one of the most popular villains of all time returning to TV screens, as Darth Vader, Lord of the Sith, will appear in animated form.
The 13th episode of Star Wars Rebels , “Fire Across the Galaxy,” is set to air on March 2 in the U.S., according to CNET , bringing Darth Vader back into the Star Wars universe. Though it isn’t the first time Vader has appeared in Rebels , having previously been depicted as a hologram in the beginning of the series, it will mark the first time the Sith lord will be seen in corporeal form on the animated program.
“Fire Across The Galaxy” will continue the story begun in the previous episode, during which Kanan was taken prisoner by Grand Moff Tarkin and tortured by the Inquisitor, as Comicbook.com points out. The season finale, it will see the crew of the Ghost trailing Tarkin to Mustafar, the planet where Anakin Skywalker battled Obi Wan Kenobi, sustaining the injuries that trapped him in the iconic armor of Darth Vader.

Though Star Wars Rebels is just reaching the end of its first season, Darth Vader is hardly the only familiar face to have made a cameo in the series. Billy Dee Williams reprised his role as Lando Calrissian earlier in the season, while the disembodied voice of Jedi master Yoda, voiced by Frank Oz, featured in another episode, as the Inquisitr previously reported.

Featuring a voice cast that includes Freddie Prinze Jr., David Oyelowo, and Jason Isaacs, Star Wars Rebels has become a hit in its Monday night time slot, already renewed for another season. Focused on a rag-tag group of heroes, it takes place between the events of Star Wars Episode III: Revenge Of The Sith and Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope . The Inquisitor, voiced by Jason Isaacs, has featured as the show’s primary antagonist, tasked by Darth Vader with hunting down the nascent “Children of the Force” before they become Jedi.
James Earl Jones, who voiced Darth Vader in the Star Wars feature films, previously returned to the role for Star Wars Rebels ‘ premiere, Spark Of Rebellion . The scene in which Darth Vader appeared, however, was unique to the ABC broadcast.
