Dance Moms star Kendall Vertes is thinking of quitting the Lifetime series. In the Season 6 premiere, fans of the reality show were surprised after the 13-year-old broke down after Abby Lee Miller called her a “hot mess.”
“I love Abby, she’s my music manager but it’s not like she owns me. I’m not her product. I’m a person, I’m a human.”
The ALDC coach, however, is not willing to give up Vertes that easily. In a never-before-seen video from Lifetime, Miller was seen having a heart-to-heart talk with Vertes following the incident.
In the confessional, Abby Lee Miller explained that when Kendall Vertes threatened to quit in Episode 1, “New Season, New Rules,” she asked her to stay calm, go home, and come up with a list of why she no longer wanted to be part of the ALDC elite junior team.
The two then went over the list the following day.
Kendall Vertes shared that she always felt that she was not good enough for Abby Lee Miller. The ALDC coach, however, explained that what she is feeling is perfectly normal, adding that it was actually the “best way she can feel as a dancer.”
“A dancer should always try to achieve perfection and never reaching it,” Miller added.
Moving on with her list, Kendall Vertes pointed out that she and the girls do not get to do as much fun stuff as they used to. When Kendall admitted that all her “Dance Moms” co-stars felt the same way, Miller started to get emotional, too.
“It’s a sad fact but it’s what happens. Life takes over and you don’t take time to stop and smell the roses. It is what it is.”
Abby Lee Miller then told Kendall Vertes that she loved every single member of ALDC. Although she appeared very sympathetic on how the dancer was feeling, Abby told Kendall that she needed to decide if this is what she really wants. The “Dance Moms” star added that the cons Vertes listed is not going to change anytime soon.
Abby admitted that the “Dance Moms” cast had a crazy schedule over the past few years. She, however, pointed out that it was all part of having a growing career.
“A lot has happened over the last few years. especially with the girls and I. We’ve all been busy. We’ve all traveled the world. We’ve all concentrated on our careers,” she explained.
In the end, Kendall Vertes said that she still felt sad, but talking to the ALDC coach really helped her understand their situation. “Dance Moms” co-star Melissa Gisoni also got teary eyed after seeing Abby Lee Miller got all emotional.
“She [Abby] doesn’t like to show it much, but I see it. You know deep down her bark is worse than her bite.”
The girls of ALDC and Abby Lee Miller may not always see each other eye to eye but Maddie Ziegler, Kendall Vertes and Nia Sioux all agree that the coach only has their best interest at heart.
In an interview with Seventeen , the “Dance Moms” stars shared that they will always look up to Miller no matter what. Things may not have gone smoothly in the past six years, but they shared that they have all learned something from starring on the Lifetime series.
Kendall said that Abby taught her to stop worrying about what others thought of her. Nia also said that it was important to know one’s worth and not give in to other’s negativity. Maddie added that they have learned to just “block out the drama and let it go through one ear and out the other.”
