Dan Stevens has been a busy man lately, making the rounds on TV at the Graham Norton talk show this past week, as well as other appearances promoting his new film Summer In February , which he also produced.
In the film, based on a true story, Dan plays Gilbert Evans, a soldier working in Cornwall, where he meets the Lamorna Group, a wild, bohemian group of artists, and finds himself caught in a love triangle between aspiring young painter Florence Carter-Wood (Emily Browning) and eccentric artist AJ Munnings (Dominic Cooper).
The period drama, based on the book by the same name, was shot on location in Cornwall, and Dan confessed that the cast immersed themselves in their characters with long drinking sessions at the local pub while filming. He was joined by his colleagues at the screening at the Curzon cinema in London’s Mayfair on Monday.
The actor reminisced that they stayed at the same hotel that the characters lived in and drinking at the same pub (The Wink) they drank. “I think it’s fair to say we threw ourselves into the Cornish spirit.” Dan Stevens said.
Dominic Cooper added, “It was fun. I can’t even describe this pub, it was one of those extraordinary little places that our country was so full of, that are now dying out.”
Dan said that he is very proud of finally being able to show his project to the world, it is something he, together with the rest of the producers, have been working on for several years, trying to get it off the ground and asking for funding.
“It feels like such a long time ago that I first read this book,” he said. “So to have made the film at all is quite something, but to have such a special night to celebrate it is very exciting.”
Summer In February premieres in the UK on Friday, June 14. No US date has been announced.
