Is Cristiano Ronaldo considering a move back to Manchester United? Only he knows the answer to that question, but his latest comments have only added further fuel to the fire that the Real Madrid forward might end up back at Old Trafford.

Cristiano Ronaldo told the Efe Agency, via the Daily Mail , that he “doesn’t know what will happen” in the next few years, which immediately led to speculation that he is considering a return to Manchester United.

However, Ronaldo made sure to prefix this tease with the insistence that he is still very happy at Real Madrid.

“At this moment, I’m happy playing for Real Madrid but I don’t know what will happen in my future. I must choose the way that makes me happy,” Ronaldo declared.

Obviously, it takes a huge leap of the imagination to go from the above to predicting that Cristiano Ronaldo is genuinely considering a move back to Manchester United.

But the Old Trafford faithful will take any evidence that they can gather as distinctive proof that the legendary forward will one day again wear their famous red colors.

Cristiano Ronaldo has been heavily linked to a return move back to Manchester United for several years now.

In fact, former Manchester United left-back Patrice Evra, who now plays for Juventus, but previously played alongside Ronaldo with the Red Devils, has insisted that just before Sir Alex Ferguson retired he confided in Evra that he was going to buy back Cristiano Ronaldo from Real Madrid.

Patrice Evra made this claim during a recent interview with The Sunday Times , via Sky Sports.

Evra recalled one of his final conversations with Ferguson as United manger.

“I remember we talked maybe two weeks before [he announced his retirement] and he said, ‘Patrice, I will be here for another five years.’ I said, ‘Yes boss, let’s do it.’ I was so convinced. He was looking younger and younger.”

Evra then added, “He even told me ’99 percent, Cristiano Ronaldo will come.’ I was like, ‘Wow, we are ready to bounce back and to even win the Champions League again.”

Speaking of when Sir Alex Ferguson officially announced his retirement, Evra remarked, “After that everyone knows what happened. You know when you are lost and you feel like the world is crumbling? It was a big trauma. I felt lost.”

Cristiano Ronaldo spent six hugely successful years at Manchester United, where he won three Premier League titles, a European Cup, FIFA Club World Cup, the FA Cup and two Football League Cups. During his tenure at Old Trafford, Ronaldo also won the first of his three Ballon d’Or trophies, which he claimed in 2008. He then followed this up by winning the prize in 2013 and 2014.

Ronaldo currently still trails Lionel Messi’s haul of four Ballon d’Ors. Because of their preposterously good scoring records over the last few years for Real Madrid and Barcelona, Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi are widely labeled as the two greatest soccer players of the last 30 years.

And while many soccer fans would insist that Lionel Messi is the better of the two, Ronaldo is adamant that he is the superior player. Speaking to El Pais , via Bleacher Report , of his exploits over the last few years, Ronaldo declared, “Perhaps for you, Messi is the best; in my head, I am the best – and everyone should think that about ourselves. That is why I have been able to achieve so much in my career.”
