So what happens when one British actor exits a film? Well, if you’re Guillermo del Toro, you can solve that problem by getting another Brit to replace him. Tom Hiddelston has officially replaced Benedict Cumberbatch from del Toro’s R-rated Goth romance called Crimson Peak .
Of course most rumors put Cumberbatch in J.J. Abrams’ Star Wars , which lead to his exit of Crimson Peak , but those reports seemed to be unfounded and was later confirmed to be not true by his rep. While he’s definitely out of Crimson Peak , we’re chalking it up to other scheduling conflicts, as he has other projects on the horizon.
Hiddleston has stepped into the role that Cumberbatch has left, but it isn’t certain what the role is yet. In the past del Toro has said that the film is very graphic and sexy, but that combination can go either way. Although we aren’t sure what role Tom Hiddleston will play, he does join a very exciting cast, including Christian Grey himself, Charlie Hunnam, and Jessica Chastain, along with Mia Wasikowska, who had later replaced Emma Stone.
So far Hiddleston is most known for his super villain role in Thor as he played the vicious Loki. In addition he’s had supporting roles in War Horse , and Midnight in Paris . However, if you ask his Twitter fans, his most loved role is playing the Norse god.
For del Toro this is his reunion with Charlie Hunnam, who starred in his film Pacific Rim , which was out this summer, and is available on DVD as early as October 15.
Crimson Peak will start production for April 2015 which gives Hiddelston plenty of time to promote Thor: The Dark World , as he has already reprised his role as Loki in the sequel.
