This is one the most amazing stories you would hear this year. A 5-day-old baby seal was rescued from a muddy puddle in the farmlands of Lincolnshire, UK and the little thing owes it lives to – believe it or not – a herd of cows grazing there! according to BBC News , the baby seal, who has since then been rescued, has been named “Celebration” and is doing quite well.

That, however, wasn’t the case when he was found by 67-year-old Ian Ellis who saw an unusual sight of cows huddling around a puddle. Ellis, who was in the area to watch for birds, noticed that a large herd of cows were surrounding a small puddle of water. From his telescope, it became evident that the bovines were not drinking water from it. He went on to investigate further and discovered that a baby seal was trapped inside the puddle. The cows were simply curious and were staring at the strange legless mammal. The cows seemed to know there was something wrong with the animal, and they were careful not to step on the baby seal. They were, however, gently trying to move the tiny seal.

Like the cows, Ellis himself was surprised to discover the seal – a baby seal, in fact, at the site which was some distance away from the adjoining marsh.

“There are seals on the edge of the marsh but it was the way the cows were so inquisitive that made me look,” he told the Express in England.

It is now thought that the baby seal had somehow got separated from its mother and was swimming in a creek – probably looking for her. Unfortunately for it, the tide went out and it ended up stranded inside the puddle – nowhere to go. Minutes after spotting the baby seal, Ellis rushed to help her. He contacted officials from the Natureland Seal Sanctuary who told him to bring the baby seal to them, NY Daily News reports.

Upon a checkup, the seal was found to be underfed and was dehydrated. However, with great care, the baby seal has recovered and is now doing well. Celebration would be released back into the wild once she gains weight and is old enough to fend for herself. For now though, the baby seal is enjoying the pampering with a continuous supply if a seal favorite – high fat herrings.

Do you think, the cows understood that the baby sea was in danger?
