It’s that time again! The Country Music Association has revealed their list of nominations for the 2014 CMA Awards, and the list is rather impressive.
It should come as no surprise that Miranda Lambert has left everyone in the dust with nine nominations. Lambert now ties “her own record for the most of any female artist in the 48 year history of the awards”, according to Rolling Stone . She’s catching up to Alan Jackson who’s record is 10 nominations twelve years ago.
All the ladies will be thrilled to hear that Dierks Bentley’s name was called out five times for nominations, making him the lead male for the CMA’s. But Keith Urban fans shouldn’t be too disappointed, as he was nominated in 4 different categories himself.
One name that wasn’t heard much during the unveiling today was Taylor Swift. The artist who seemed to take home every single award she was nominated for in years past was barely mentioned. In fact, she was only mentioned once as a nominee for a major category of Female Vocalist of the Year.
According to The Washington Post , Swift has most likely seen her last days in the realm of country music — especially after her big announcement that her upcoming project, 1989 , will be her “first documented, official pop album.” That may have been her kiss of death with the Country Music Association.
Country Music fans may be surprised to hear that Jason Aldean was completely overlooked this year. No one single nomination went his direction. Although Aldean had several hit singles this year that topped the charts, his album was not eligible in the CMA voting period as reported by The Washington Post . That’s got to sting a bit.
The most coveted award given by the Country Music Association is Entertainer of the Year. Every country artist dreams of winning this prestigious award. This year’s nominees are: Luke Bryan, Miranda Lambert, Blake Shelton, George Strait and Keith Urban. Rolling Stone reveals that this nomination for George Strait is actually his 83rd CMA nomination through the course of his incredible career in country music.
Rolling Stone has revealed each category and nominee listed below. Be sure to look for your favorites on this list, as well as on the award show, which will air November 5 at 8pm ET, on ABC. This 48th annual CMA Awards will yet again be hosted by Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood.
