Cooper Hefner is getting ready to walk the aisle, and the son of the Playboy founder, Hugh Hefner, apparently has a bit of a traditional streak.
The 23-year-old announced this week that he and longtime girlfriend, Scarlett Byrne, are engaged. Cooper popped the question to the Vampire Diaries actress over the weekend, and she later shared pictures of their engagement on Instagram.
Cooper Hefner even got some congratulations from his famous dad.
“Sending love and congratulations to my son Cooper and his fianceé Scarlett on their engagement,” Hugh Hefner tweeted.
Cooper Hefner recently opened up about what it was like growing up in the Playboy Mansion. He gave Business Insider a tour last year to show what it was like through the eyes of a curious child.
Cooper said his father made sure he didn’t see the wild side of life at the mansion.
“We were kept away from the parties while we were growing up when we were younger,” he said. “Like any other 13, 14, 15-year-old if you’re upstairs and your parents are having a Christmas party you’re going to sneak down and try to figure out why you aren’t allowed at the party.”
Cooper added that the grotto had a very different meaning to him.
“It’s funny because it’s such an iconic place and obviously the whole world probably sees it as one thing which this a mecca for orgies,” he said. “But the reality is, for me, it’s always represented this Indiana Jones adventure because when I was a kid there was none of that going on.”
Cooper has also waded into the rivalry between his father and Holly Madison, who dished about her relationship with Hugh in the tell-all book Down the Rabbit Hole . Madison claimed that Hugh was abusive, saying that she contemplated suicide during her time living in the Playboy Mansion.
Cooper shot back, calling her a “gold digger.” He said it was Holly who pursued his father.

Despite a very progressive upbringing, Cooper Hefner was very traditional when it came to his engagement with Scarlett Byrne. He reportedly flew to Scarlett’s birthplace in London to ask her father’s permission before proposing. The families then celebrated the engagement together, including Cooper’s grandmother, who he flew out for the occasion.
